As an Outbound BDR for our Database Business Unit, you are the frontline of our specialized growth.

You won’t just be “making calls”—you will be engaging with Database Administrators (DBAs) and IT leaders to solve critical data challenges. You will proactively identify and engage potential customers who are struggling with database performance, cloud migrations, or sprawling data environments, sparking interest in our Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) and SQL Sentry solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Database Prospecting: Execute multi-channel outbound campaigns (phone, email, social) targeting specialized personas such as DBAs, Data Engineers, and VPs of Infrastructure.
  • Account Mapping & Intent Research: Utilize AI and prospecting tools to identify companies running complex SQL Server, Oracle, or Open Source database environments. Research “intent signals” like recent cloud migrations or performance bottlenecks.
  • Technical “First-Touch” Demos: Conduct high-impact, 5-minute demonstrations of our database tools. You must be able to show how SolarWinds provides “single-pane-of-glass” visibility into query performance and root-cause analysis.
  • Database Lead Qualification: Research and qualify prospects to ensure they have the environment scale and business need (e.g., managing “business-critical” data) before handing them over to the Enterprise Account Managers.
  • Consultative Value Messaging: Effectively communicate how SolarWinds reduces MTTR (Mean Time to Resolution) and eliminates “finger-pointing” between database and application teams.
  • Pipeline Management: Maintain meticulous records in Salesforce and Outreach, ensuring a seamless handover to the specialized Database sales team.
  • Success Metrics & KPIs
SQLs (Sales Qualified Leads): Number of qualified database-specific opportunities accepted by the sales team.
  • Discovery Calls: Number of technical deep-dives scheduled with database stakeholders.
  • Pipeline Contribution: The total dollar value of database-specific pipeline generated.

Your Experience & Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience: 1–2 years of experience in lead qualification or sales, ideally within the IT infrastructure, DevOps, or Data management space.
  • Database Curiosity: An enthusiastic approach to learning about database ecosystems (SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) and the people who manage them.
  • Self-Starter Mentality: A passion for “the hunt” and the resilience required to break into large enterprise accounts.
  • Tech Literacy: Proficiency with Salesforce, Outreach, and AI-assisted prospecting tools.
  • Interpersonal Excellence: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak the “language of the DBA.”

Preferred Attributes

  • Technical Aptitude: Ability to understand technical concepts like “latency,” “query tuning,” and “resource contention.”
  • Problem Solver: You don’t just read a script; you listen to a customer’s performance headache and position the right database solution to fix it.
  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to prioritize accounts based on their “data footprint” and potential for high-value expansion.
