Overview
We are a cloud-native observability platform with AIOps capabilities seeking a Senior Staff Engineer – Backend to help shape and scale our new marketplace initiative. You will serve as a key technical leader on a small, focused team (4–5 engineers), guiding architectural decisions, mentoring teammates, and contributing hands-on to our codebase. This marketplace project will start with internal SKUs and grow to support third-party integrations, positioning you to drive the backend foundation for a high-impact platform.
Key Responsibilities

System Architecture & Design

Lead the design of robust, scalable backend services to support marketplace transactions, billing, and integrations.

Drive adoption of distributed systems best practices, leveraging microservices and event-driven architectures across AWS and/or Azure.

Collaborate with the Senior Engineering Manager and product team to align technical vision with business goals.

Hands-on Development

Write and review high-quality, maintainable code in Kotlin and/or Go.

Proactively refactor, optimize, and improve existing systems for performance, reliability, and security.

Implement advanced observability features (metrics, logging, tracing) to ensure system resilience and ease of troubleshooting.

Technical Leadership & Mentoring

Provide technical guidance to engineers, sharing best practices in microservices, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems design.

Collaborate on design documents, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Partner with cross-functional teams to plan roadmaps, set technical priorities, and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.

Payment & E-commerce Enablement

Architect secure, efficient payment workflows; integrate with platforms such as Stripe or similar payment gateways.

Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., PCI DSS) and maintain the highest levels of data protection.

Develop robust APIs and services to power seamless transaction flows for both internal and future third-party SKUs.

Scalability & Reliability

Design fault-tolerant services capable of handling high-volume transaction processing.

Implement strategies for horizontal scaling, load balancing, and resilience in multi-cloud environments.

Leverage containerization (Kubernetes) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) to streamline deployments and manage infrastructure.

Required Skills & Experience

Extensive Backend Engineering Expertise

8+ years of professional experience in software development, with deep proficiency in Kotlin or Go.

Strong track record of building large-scale, distributed systems, microservices, and high-traffic APIs.

Cloud-Native & Distributed Systems
-
Demonstrated success in architecting applications in AWS or Azure.

Experience designing and operating event-driven architectures, asynchronous workflows, and real-time data pipelines.

E-commerce & Payment Systems
-
Familiarity with payment platforms (e.g., Stripe) and handling transaction lifecycles at scale.

Comfortable building secure, compliant services handling sensitive financial data.

Observability & AIOps
-
Knowledge of observability fundamentals (metrics, logging, tracing) is beneficial.

Ability to implement instrumentation that supports both engineering and business analytics requirements.

Capable of providing clear direction on technical decisions, effectively influencing cross-functional teams without direct authority.

Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, balancing short-term feature delivery with long-term architectural integrity.

Marketplace Expertise

Prior experience with marketplaces or third-party integrations, including API design for partners or developers.

Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

Security & Compliance

Understanding of identity and access management (IAM), secrets management, and compliance frameworks relevant to e-commerce.
