Your Role:

The Director of Global Corporate Communications will lead the public relations function and will report to the Senior Director, Campaigns, Content, and Communications. This role will partner with leaders in the Corporate Marketing organization, as well as Product Management, Category Marketing, Sales, Support, Customer Success, and Information Security leaders and executives, to develop a global communication strategy to expand SolarWinds market awareness in strategically important technology, buyer, and industry segments.

The Director of Global Corporate Communications will lead a distributed team of public relations professionals and manage the overall relationships with our global PR agency partners.

Your Impact:

  • Communications Strategy: Responsible for the development and execution of integrated and innovative public relations, executive communications, thought leadership, and media plans to advance global awareness of the SolarWinds mission and leadership positioning. Formulates and implements strategic marketing communication strategies to position new and existing SolarWinds products or services across all earned media and in key international regions. Help formulate strategic vision and long-term PR planning, ensuring the team achieves organizational goals through innovative and impactful solutions. Ensure the delivery of consistent messaging and ensure it is reinforced and consistent across all channels.
  • Public Relations: Direct proactive and reactive media relations activities globally, including fostering productive relationships with key contacts, facilitating media requests, uncovering opportunities, crafting compelling pitches, and managing and coaching spokespeople. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure PR and social media campaigns and concepts are appropriately integrated and amplified across all platforms and in every region. Develop press materials such as press releases, media alerts, fact sheets, and media pitches. Serve as a company spokesperson and media contact.
  • Executive Communications: Create strategies to raise the thought leadership profile of the organization and key personnel. Write scripts, speeches, and talking points for the organization’s key leaders for events, press interviews, and public speaking engagements in global opportunities. Partner with Investor Relations to prepare executives for quarterly and annual earnings filings and presentations and coordinate media opportunities supporting these events.
  • Crisis Communications: Manage communications around a range of corporate and crisis situations, including issues preparedness and planning activities, partnering with the business continuity and crisis management team on running crisis simulations, and handling live crisis response for both internal and external audiences.
  • Agency Management: Manage global and regional external agency resources to drive results; direct agency resources and monitor for quality control; provide direct and timely feedback; monitor and measure agency deliverables against goals and objectives.
  • Target Setting and Reporting: Establish communication targets/goals to support the overall Global Marketing Plan and the associated metrics to be monitored. Monitor and report on Communications results, providing media coverage reports and KPI dashboards at both global and regional levels. Oversee compilation of corporate communications management reports. Create and implement systems of measurement and integrate results into future communications.
  • Budgeting: Establish, communicate, and effectively manage program and project budgets at both global and regional levels, reevaluating their effectiveness on an ongoing basis based on strategic objectives. Manage and track budget(s); utilize key financial and operational metrics to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and programs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Consistently looks for ways to enhance existing processes for greater efficiency and existing communication vehicles for greater effectiveness and impact.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Your Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or equivalent
  • 10+ years related experience within communications, marketing, media relations, including managing international teams, including for a publicly traded company
  • Comfort and agility in supporting executive communications efforts
  • Experience with a software or other technology company; familiarity with technical terminology, with the aptitude to quickly learn about and communicate effectively about new technologies and distill complex technical material quickly
  • Experience working in a fast-paced start-up/high-growth environment where initiative, accountability, prioritization, and flexibility count
  • Experience and skill in managing globally distributed teams and agencies
  • Meticulous detail orientation, with strong time management and excellent project management skills and the ability to successfully multi-task and manage several initiatives at one time
